Be careful with the twist of your wrist when hitting the ball!

Wrist injuries are becoming more common in people who play racquet sports. It is important to prevent them , or if they already suffer, treat them since they are injuries that end up affecting the competitive ability of the athlete.

This injury can be the result of a single traumatic event, but most are due to chronic repetitive movements in which tendons, ligaments, bones and nerves are usually affected, and can occur both in the dominant wrist, due to twists when hitting the ball, or in the non-dominant one, especially in players who perform the backhand with two hands.

Wrist injuries are also common in people who Osicent 80 mg (Osimertinib) practice paddle tennis and have previously played tennis, since they continue to rotate their wrist when hitting with the paddle, although this gesture should not be performed in paddle tennis.

The most common injury to the wrists of tennis players is damage to the tendons, called tendonitis . The pain can be described by its location: radial (side of the thumb) or ulnar (side of the little finger), and can present with a variety of symptoms ranging from an annoying click to more pronounced pain.

The most common is the one that occurs on the ulnar side, although it is sometimes very complex to diagnose. Tendons and ligaments may be involved, as well as a structure called triangular fibrocartilage that provides stability and absorbs impacts between the hand and wrist when hitting.

Treatment in most cases includes rest, ice, semi-rigid wrist support, functional bandages, anti-inflammatories and, sometimes, infiltrations. If there are ruptures of tendons, fibrocartilage or ligament injuries, surgical treatment may be necessary, which must be performed by an expert and preferably through arthroscopy, a semi-invasive technique performed through small holes.

But, the best way to prevent the appearance of these injuries is by choosing the racket with the appropriate grip size, adequate tension and, from a young age, teaching and training correct technique.
