ISLAMABAD: Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry has called for aligning the `Heart of Asia` process with the priorities of the Afghan government.

He was speaking at a reception he had hosted on Tuesday for representatives of member and supporting countries and regional and international organisations involved in the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process set up in November 2011 to strengthen regional cooperation, overcome common challenges and threats and pave way for political dialogue and confidence building among the states.

Pakistan is co-chairing the process this year along with Afghanistan which is a permanent co-chair and will host its fifth ministerial conference later this year.

A meeting of senior officials of countries and organisation participating in the process is planned for next month.

Mr Chaudhry encouraged members and supporting countries and organisations to synergise their efforts to pilot Afghanistan and the region towards stability and prosperity.

He said enhanced regional cooperation was crucial to reinforcing Afghanistan`s national efforts for economic development and regional integration.

Afghan Ambassador Janan Mosazai said tangible and concrete results were expected from the activities envisaged under the process.
