1. The United States dominates the world in defence spending as its defence budget represents about 40 percent of that of the whole world. It notched first place, spending a mammoth $622 billion.
2. China maintained its number-two spot, spending nearly $191.75 billion on defense capabilities. China's defence budget will almost double within 10 years ó from $123 billion in 2010 to $233 billion in 2020.
3. The UK barely edged out India to grab the third position, spending some $53 billion. Security concerns add approximately $10 billion to defence budgets across the region over the next five years.
4. Indiaís drive to modernise its military has helped it to surpass Saudi Arabia and Russia in defence spending, making the nation of 1.25 billion the fourth-largest defence spender in the world. India spent $50.6 billion on its military in 2016, in an effort to bolster its forces after it spent $46.6 billion in 2015.
5. Saudi Arabia secured fifth spot as its defence budget dipped slightly from $50.5 billion in 2015 to $48.7 billion in 2016.
6. Russia has slipped out of the top 5 this year, as now ranks 6th on defence spending with a budget of $48.446 billion
7. France ranks 7th on the list with a total defence budget of $44.349 billion.
8. Japan has emerged as the world's 8th largest spender on defence with a budget of $41.6 86billion.
9. Germany is the 9th highest spender on defence with a budget of $35.7 billion.
10. South Korea is the 10th biggest defence spender with a budget of $33.4 77 billion.
